Garlic Bavette Steak

Bavette steak, also known as flank or skirt steak is a flavoursome cut of beef, but can be tough if not cooked rare – medium rare. A cheaper cut of beef this is excellent for people craving a delish steak without having to pay the premium price. I served mine with a gluten free Cauliflower Cheese and Sweet Potato Mash.

Equipment required

1 large fry pan
1 mixing bowl
1 garlic crusher

Shopping list for 2 people

Approx 350g of bavette steak
2 cloves of crushed garlic
1 tbsp of vegetable oil, plus a splash
Pinch of salt
1 knob of butter
Parsley to garnish (optional)

Method to the madness

Take the steak out of the fridge at least half an hour before cooking

Crush the garlic over the steaks, coat in 1 tbsp of oil and a pinch of salt, leave the steaks to marinate until cooking

Turn the pan to a high heat, add a small amount of vegetable oil and the knob of butter

Once the butter starts taking on colour add the steaks to the pan, do not over crowd the pan, you may have to do in batches depending on the size of your pan

Cook the steaks for approx 2 mins on each side, remove from pan and leave to rest

Slice vertically along the grain, top with parsley and serve with your favourite low carb sides. ENJOY!
